No. 16 Virginia 61, Maryland 53: Joe Harris scored a game-high 19 points and dished out four assists as the host Cavaliers held off the Terrapins to extend their winning streak to eight games.

Malcolm Brogdon added 14 points for Virginia (20-5, 11-1 ACC), which has won 15 straight conference home games. Akil Mitchell scored 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting and grabbed six rebounds for the Cavaliers, who turned the ball over only once in the second half.

Seth Allen led the way with 15 points for Maryland (14-11, 6-6), which has lost six straight meetings with Virginia. Dez Wells chipped in with 12 points and four assists while Evan Smotrycz and Charles Mitchell each secured five rebounds for the Terrapins, who fell to 0-4 against nationally ranked teams this season.

Mitchell keyed an 8-0 run to hand Virginia a 21-17 advantage before Maryland closed out the first half with a 7-2 burst to take a 26-25 edge into the break. Harris knocked down two straight triples to put the Cavaliers on top 33-29 and Brogdon's layup stretched the lead to nine with less than 10 minutes remaining in the second stanza.

London Perrantes nailed a jumper to give Virginia its first double-digit advantage at 52-41 before Nick Faust scored five straight points to trim the deficit to four with 2:11 left. The Cavaliers made seven free throws down the stretch to record their 11th win in their last 12 contests.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Virginia has held its last 12 opponents to less than 70 points. … Harris went 4-of-7 from beyond the arc and leads all active ACC players with 237 career 3-pointers. … Maryland did not attempt a free throw in the first half before finishing 5-of-8.
