St. John's 70, No. 12 Creighton 65: D'Angelo Harrison led the way with 19 points as the resurgent Red Storm upset the visiting Bluejays.

St. John's (15-9, 5-6 Big East) won for the sixth time in seven games despite not shooting particularly well from the field (42.4 percent) or from behind the arc (3-of-12). The key for the Red Storm was holding the Bluejays (19-4, 9-2) well below their scoring average of 81.2 points and limiting Creighton's secondary scorers behind Doug McDermott, who continued his sensational senior season with 25 points.

Creighton's other four starters scored a total of 30 points on 9-of-26 shooting, although Grant Gibbs had a nice all-around game with 12 points, a career-high 11 rebounds and six assists. Chris Obekpa supported St. John's offensively with 11 points and Rysheed Jordan posted five points, seven assists and five rebounds.

Creighton made its first five shots - 3-pointers by Gibbs and Jahenns Manigat and three two-point baskets by McDermott - but went just 9-of-28 the rest of the half and trailed 40-36 at the break. St. John's maintained the lead until a five-minute scoreless spell allowed the Bluejays to go ahead 47-46 with under 14 minutes left.

The teams went back-and-forth throughout the duration of the second half, with Harrison nailing a 3-pointer to put St. John's ahead 65-63 with 2:10 left and adding a pair of free throws with 20 seconds to play to make it 67-63. Devin Brooks' layup sliced the deficit in half with nine seconds remaining, but Harrison answered with two more free throws and Creighton committed a turnover on its ensuing possession.

GAME NOTEBOOK: McDermott, the nation's second-leading scorer, led all players with 14 points at the break and finished 10-of-18 overall. ... This was the second meeting between the teams in less than two weeks, as McDermott capped a spectacular 39-point performance with a 3-pointer with 2.5 seconds left to lift Creighton to a 63-60 home victory on Jan. 28. ... Bluejays F Ethan Wragge, who came in averaging 11.9 points, was held to five points and has scored 17 total points in his last three games.
