No. 6 Villanova 70, Seton Hall 53: James Bell scored 20 points and JayVaughn Pinkston added 19 as the host Wildcats defeated the Pirates in Big East play.

Daniel Ochefu contributed 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assists as Villanova (21-2, 9-1) won its fifth consecutive game. Darrun Hilliard II added 10 points for the Wildcats, who gave coach Jay Wright his 400th career victory.

Sterling Gibbs scored 16 points for Seton Hall (13-10, 4-6), which committed 15 turnovers while falling for the 12th time in the last 13 meetings. Gene Teague added 10 points for the Pirates.

Villanova led 34-26 at the break before controlling the second half. Bell hit a 3-pointer as part of a 7-0 run that saw the Wildcats increase the lead to 60-40 with under six minutes to go and the margin topped out at 21 points.

Seton Hall led 25-21 after Brian Oliver’s basket with less than five minutes to go in the first half before Villanova closed with a 13-1 surge to take the eight-point halftime lead. Gibbs scored to start the second half for the Pirates before the Wildcats scored eight straight to forge a 42-28 edge with over 16 minutes to go.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Bell made four 3-pointers but Villanova was just 5-of-21 overall from behind the arc. … Seton Hall G Fuquan Edwin had just eight points on 3-of-10 shooting after averaging 20.8 points over the previous five games. … Wright has won 278 games with the Wildcats. The other 122 came at Hofstra.
