No. 11 Kansas 78, No. 23 Baylor 68: Perry Ellis scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half as the Jayhawks held on to beat the visiting Bears.

Andrew Wiggins scored 11 of his 17 points after halftime and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds for Kansas (14-4, 5-0 Big 12), which shot 57.5 percent from the floor. Joel Embiid added 12 points and Frank Mason led the reserves with nine points and six assists.

Brady Heslip shot 6-for-9 from 3-point range and matched his season high with 19 points off the bench for Baylor (13-5, 1-4), which has lost three straight and four of five since climbing to No. 9 in the coaches’ poll two weeks ago. Isaiah Austin also matched his season high with 16 points and and Cory Jefferson also scored 16, bettering his team-high scoring average (13.1) for the first time this month.

Heslip sank four 3-pointers in a six-minute stretch of the first half to keep the Bears in stride with the Jayhawks. Kansas carried a two-point lead into the second half and started to gain separation with a 9-0 run that was highlighted by Wayne Selden Jr.’s dive into stands to save a loose ball, resulting in a jump hook by Embiid.

Naadir Tharpe, who went scoreless in the first half for Kansas before finishing with six points, buried a 3-pointer about three minutes later to stretch the lead to 60-46 with 8:24 left. Wiggins followed with seven straight free throws and a jumper as the Jayhawks managed to maintain a sizable lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Baylor is 0-12 all-time in Lawrence, Kan. …. The Jayhawks won their first five conference games for the third straight season. …. Both teams came in having outrebounded 15 of 17 opponents this season, and Baylor finished with a 31-29 edge on the glass.
