Providence 81, No. 19 Creighton 68: Bryce Cotton scored 23 points and dished out six assists as the host Friars ended the Bluejays’ 10-game winning streak.

LaDontae Henton chipped in with 19 points for Providence (13-5, 3-2 Big East), which held the nation’s top 3-point shooting team to 4-of-19 from behind the arc. Kadeem Batts contributed 13 points and nine rebounds while Josh Fortune and Tyler Harris had 10 points each as the Friars won their third straight.

The nation’s second-leading scorer, Doug McDermott, led the way with 21 points for Creighton (15-3, 5-1), which had won nine of its previous 10 by double digits. Devin Brooks scored 10 off the bench for the Bluejays, who finished with only nine assists.

Batts and Cotton each registered 10 points as Providence led by as much as nine in the first half before settling for a 37-30 edge at intermission. The Friars outrebounded Creighton 19-9 in the opening 20 minutes and held McDermott to six shots and eight points.

Providence scored the first seven of the second half and pushed its lead as high as 20 after a tip-in by Fortune with just under 14 minutes remaining. The Bluejays made a late run to get within 73-64 with 1:32 left, but could get no closer as Providence finished with only five turnovers.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Providence C Carson Desrosiers produced four points and blocked three shots in extended time off the bench due to foul trouble for Batts and Harris. … Senior F Ethan Wragge, who has made at least two 3-pointers in 14 consecutive games after going 2-of-8 against the Friars, became the 37th player to reach 1,000 points in Creighton history. … Providence, which came in leading the nation in free-throw shooting percentage at 80.1, made 18-of-25 on Saturday.
