Clemson 56, Virginia Tech 49: K.J. McDaniels scored 14 points and Adonis Filer’s three-point play in the final two minutes snapped a tie as the visiting Tigers won for the fourth time in five games.

Rod Hall added 11 points for Clemson (12-4, 3-1 ACC), and the nation’s top defensive team limited Virginia Tech (8-8, 1-3) to a season low in points. The Tigers, who came in allowing just 53.9 points per contest, held the Hokies scoreless in the final two minutes, closing the game with a 7-0 run.

Devin Wilson paced the Hokies with 14 points while Joey van Zegeren and Ben Emelogu each added 11 points, but leading scorer Jarrell Eddie finished with just three points on 1-of-6 shooting from the field. Virginia Tech was dreadful from the free-throw line, going 4-for-14.

Virginia Tech erased a 49-43 deficit with six consecutive points, the final three on Emelogu’s game-tying 3-pointer with 2:01 remaining. The Tigers surged back in front on Filer’s three-point play with 1:24 to go and, after C.J. Barksdale missed at the other end, McDaniels drained two free throws with 55 seconds to play to give Clemson a 54-49 advantage.

McDaniels’ jumper with about nine minutes left gave the Tigers their largest lead of the first half at 16-10. Clemson carried a 25-24 advantage into intermission, and after the Hokies opened the second half on a 12-5 run to take a 36-30 lead, the Tigers responded with 10 consecutive points to go up 40-36 on Filer’s 3-pointer with 11 minutes.
