No. 9 Baylor 88, Texas Christian 62: Taurean Prince scored 15 of his career-high 23 points in the first half as the host Bears rebounded from a disappointing loss in their Big 12 opener with a rout of the Horned Frogs.

Cory Jefferson notched his sixth double-double of the season with 11 points and 14 rebounds to help Baylor (13-2, 1-1 Big 12) bounce back from a 15-point loss at No. 7 Iowa State on Tuesday. Isaiah Austin added 14 points and eight boards, Rico Gathers collected 10 points and 12 rebounds, and Brady Heslip drained five 3-pointers to finish with 15 points for the Bears.

Brandon Parrish paced TCU (9-6, 0-3) with 16 points, Kyan Anderson had 12 and Jarvis Ray contributed 11. The Horned Frogs, who were outrebounded 37-21 by Kansas State on Tuesday, were pounded on the boards 54-25 in this contest.

The Horned Frogs kept it close in the early going and trailed 16-14 before the Bears embarked on a 9-0 surge to take a double-digit advantage. TCU got back-to-back layups from Ray to close within nine twice, but Baylor hit five straight field goals and began to pull away by scoring 24 of the final 31 points of the first half.

A dunk from Jefferson and jumper from Austin coming out of the break stretched the margin to 55-25 as the Bears did not allow their lead to dip below 18 thereafter. The only suspense that remained late in the contest was whether Gathers – a 55.9 percent foul shooter – could help Baylor set a school record by hitting all 21 of its free throws, which he did by calmly knocking down a pair in the final minute.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Jefferson had as many offensive boards in the first half as TCU (five) and finished the opening 20 minutes with one fewer rebound (12) than the Horned Frogs (13). … TCU shot a season-worst 9-of-20 from the stripe. … Baylor, which finished with nine blocks, set season highs in offensive boards (24) and total rebounds.
