Miami (Fla.) 63, North Carolina 57: Rion Brown recorded 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way as the visiting Hurricanes held on to defeat the Tar Heels for the fourth time in last two seasons.

Erik Swoope contributed a career-high 14 points off the bench while Manu Lecomte had 11 points and seven assists for Miami (9-6, 1-2 ACC). Garrius Adams added nine points and Tonye Jekiri grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds for the Hurricanes, who held North Carolina to 30.8 percent shooting.

James Michael McAdoo registered 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Tar Heels (10-5, 0-2), who were held to their season low in scoring. Leading scorer Marcus Paige finished with eight points on 2-of-15 shooting and dished out eight assists for North Carolina.

The Tar Heels scored the game’s first eight points before Miami answered with the next 10 – five by Donnavan Kirk. Brown finished with 11 points in the first half and the Hurricanes scored 12 of the last 18, capped by an Adams 3-pointer, to take a 29-23 lead at intermission.

Miami scored 11 straight points, highlighted by two dunks from Swoope, to push its lead to 46-33 midway through the second half. North Carolina pulled within four, but Swoope converted two big three-point plays and the Hurricanes held off a late rally.

GAME NOTEBOOK: North Carolina F Joel James was assessed a flagrant 2 for his elbow to Brown’s face that caused a cut under his left eye 1:29 into the second half. James, who was automatically ejected, had four points and five rebounds. … Miami had seven blocks, led by Jekiri’s three. Kirk also had a block and boasts at least one in 14 of 15 games… North Carolina’s Roy Williams and Jim Larranaga of Miami are two of four ACC coaches with at least 500 career victories.
