Georgetown 77, St. John’s 60: D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera scored a season-best 31 points and made a career-high six 3-pointers as the Hoyas routed the visiting Red Storm in the 100th meeting between the longtime Big East rivals.

Smith-Rivera was 9-of-12 from the field – including 6-of-7 from 3-point range – while scoring 25 or more points for the fourth time this season. Markel Starks scored 12 points and Joshua Smith grabbed six rebounds for Georgetown (10-3, 2-0), which shot 56.1 percent from the field and was 9-of-14 from 3-point range while beating St. John’s for the sixth consecutive time.

Max Hooper scored 13 points and Sir’Dominic Pointer added 11 to lead the Red Storm (9-5, 0-2), who shot 39.7 percent from the field and missed 10 of 20 free-throw attempts. Leading scorer D’Angelo Harrison had just four points on 1-of-12 shooting.

The Hoyas dominated from the outset and enjoyed a 15-4 lead before the game was 5 1/2 minutes old and boosted it to 26-8 on Aaron Bowen’s basket with about 8 1/2 minutes left in the half. Smith-Rivera later hit two 3-pointers during a 14-3 push to make it a 27-point lead and Georgetown took a 42-16 lead into the break.

The lead reached 30 on Smith-Rivera’s 3-pointer early in the second half and topped out at 33. The Red Storm followed with a 20-6 burst to whittle the margin under 20.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Georgetown shot 62.5 percent from the field in the first half while St. John’s checked in at 21.4. … Starks and St. John’s Rysheed Jordan drew technical fouls late in the second half and Georgetown’s Jabril Trawick was called for one about a minute later. … Smith-Rivera’s career high of 33 points came last season against DePaul.
