Virginia 66, Norfolk State 56: Justin Anderson collected 14 points and eight rebounds and the Cavaliers put on a strong defensive performance to take out the visiting Spartans.

Joe Harris added 12 points and seven boards for Virginia (9-3), which has won two straight following a two-game slide. Malcolm Brogdon recorded four steals to go along with seven points as the Cavaliers’ defense limited Norfolk State (8-5) to 36.4 percent shooting.

Pendarvis Williams scored 12 points to lead the Spartans, who entered the game averaging 82.8 points and were held to a season low. Marese Phelps and Malcolm Hawkins contributed 10 points apiece as Norfolk State dropped back-to-back games.

Anderson capped a game-opening 7-0 run with a 3-pointer and Virginia never trailed. Akil Mitchell tipped in Teven Jones’ missed jumper to give the Cavaliers a 32-26 cushion at the break.

Williams converted a transition layup to cap a 6-0 run starting the second half and knot it at 32, but Virginia scored the next nine points to regain control. Jones’ jumper with 8:18 left spread it out to 52-37 and the Cavaliers fended off a late run before closing it out.
