No. 18 North Carolina 97, Davidson 85 (OT): J.P. Tokoto posted career highs of 22 points, 11 rebounds, five steals and four blocked shots as the host Tar Heels dominated the extra session and staved off the upset bid by the Wildcats.

Marcus Paige scored 11 of his 17 points in the overtime as North Carolina (8-3) began the period with a 13-2 surge. James Michael McAdoo tallied 19 points and Kennedy Meeks had 13 points on 6-of-6 shooting and blocked three shots.

Brian Sullivan recorded career highs of 33 points and seven 3-pointers for Davidson (4-8) but missed a game-winning attempt at the buzzer in regulation. Jordan Barham had 15 points and 10 rebounds and De’Mon Brooks had 13 points in his return from a six-game injury absence.

Paige hit two free throws to tie the score with 29.3 seconds left in regulation and Sullivan missed a last-second 3-point attempt before the Wildcats went 2-of-10 from the field in overtime. Paige’s basket early in the extra session put the Tar Heels ahead to stay and his 3-pointer made it an eight-point margin with 2:46 to go and North Carolina cruised to the finish.

Tokoto scored 14 points as the Tar Heels had a 38-35 lead at the break. A three-point play from Brooks gave the Wildcats a 49-44 lead with 15:37 remaining and the Tar Heels rebounded to take a seven-point lead with just under 11 minutes to go before Davidson roared back to tie it at 69 on two free throws by Brooks with 5:11 to play.

GAME NOTEBOOK: North Carolina is no longer seeking to get G P.J. Hairston reinstated and last season’s leading scorer will not play this season. … Davidson committed 22 turnovers and was outrebounded 42-35. … Tar Heels C Joel James (knee) sat out and will miss about two weeks.
