No. 5 Michigan State 92, Texas 78: Adreian Payne scored a career-high 33 points and grabbed nine rebounds to carry the visiting Spartans past the Longhorns.

Gary Harris added 19 points in a reserve role and Branden Dawson tallied 11 points and 10 rebounds for Michigan State (10-1), which shot 50 percent from the field and was 27-of-33 from the foul line. Travis Trice added 13 points off the bench and Denzel Valentine contributed eight points and a game-high 11 boards.

Cameron Ridley collected 17 points and nine rebounds to lead Texas (10-2), which had its six-game winning streak snapped. Isaiah Taylor scored 16 and Jonathan Holmes and Javan Felix each added 11 for the Longhorns.

The Spartans took the lead for good on Harris' three-point play with 10:23 left, which came in the midst of a 14-2 run during which the Longhorns went more than five minutes without a field goal. Payne scored 17 in the second half and finished 10-of-13 from the floor and 11-of-12 from the line.

The Longhorns led by as much as six early on and used a distinct edge at the foul line to muster a 38-36 halftime lead. Michigan State shot 50 percent from the field before the break compared to 35.3 percent for Texas, but the Longhorns made eight more free throws.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Harris (ankle) played for only the second time in the last five games and was 4-for-8 from the field with five assists and two turnovers. … Texas had 12 offensive rebounds and has reached double digits in 11 of its 12 games, while Michigan State tallied 11 and has hit double figures in nine of 11 contests. … The Longhorns have had at least four players score in double figures in 10 straight games.
