Purdue 79, Maryland-Eastern Shore 50: Terone Johnson scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds as the host Boilermakers downed the Hawks.

Errick Peck added nine points for Purdue (9-3), which improved to 8-0 all-time against MEAC opponents. A.J. Hammons recorded eight points and seven rebounds for the Boilermakers, who shot 50 percent from beyond the arc.

Kyree Jones led the way with a game-high 23 points for Maryland-Eastern Shore (2-6), which has dropped 24 consecutive road games. Iman Johnson secured six rebounds and Isaac Smith III dished out six assists for the Hawks.

Hammons keyed a 14-0 run as Purdue jumped out to an early 11-point lead before Johnson hit a 3-pointer to put the Boilermakers up 25-8 with just over eight minutes left in the first half. Purdue held Maryland-Eastern Shore to just 21.7 percent shooting and forced eight turnovers in the opening period to take a 37-17 edge into the break.

It was more of the same in the second stanza as the Boilermakers used a 15-5 spurt to increase their advantage to 26 after Sterling Carter's triple. Purdue went ahead 62-35 with just under eight minutes remaining and cruised to its eighth straight home win.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Purdue is 67-5 in non-conference home games under Matt Painter. … The Boilermakers have scored 70 or more points in nine games this season. … Purdue came into the game shooting 64.9 percent from the free throw line but made 13-of-16 from the charity stripe.
