San Jose State 72, Houston 68: Jalen James recorded the second triple-double in school history and Rashad Muhammad had a game-high 21 points as the Spartans stunned the host Cougars.

James totaled 12 points, a game-high 13 rebounds and 10 assists - only three fewer than Houston had as a team. Devante Wilson added 16 points for San Jose State (3-6), which snapped a two-game losing streak.

Jherrod Stiggers scored a career-high 20 points for Houston (6-4), which lost its first game of the season when leading at halftime. Brandon Morris added 17 off the bench and TaShawn Thomas had 10 points.

The Cougars overcame a slow start in the first half with a 15-0 run behind Stiggers, who scored 15 before the break. The Spartans closed the gap to four with just over two minutes to play in the half, but Houston scored the next eight points to take a 41-29 halftime lead.

Trailing by 13 with under eight minutes to go in the second half, the Spartans went on an 13-0 run to tie the game at 60 after Muhammad scored 11 consecutive points. Muhammad sank a three with just over 1 1/2 minutes remaining to take a 68-66 lead and San Jose State was able to hold off the Cougars with James' four clutch free throws.

GAME NOTEBOOK: San Jose State F Jaleel Williams injured his knee in the opening minutes of the game and did not return. ... Houston G Danuel House missed his third straight game with a knee injury. ... Muhammad had just five points in the first half for San Jose State.
