No. 3 Ohio State 76, Maryland 60: LaQuinton Ross scored 17 of his season-high 20 points in the first half as the host Buckeyes rolled over the Terrapins in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

Sam Thompson came off the bench to register 14 points, including four highlight-reel dunks, for Ohio State (7-0). Lenzelle Smith Jr. recorded 12 points while Aaron Craft added 10 points, six assists and five steals for the Buckeyes, who made 8-of-18 from 3-point range.

Dez Wells led the way with 19 points and Evan Smotrycz had 15 for Maryland (5-3), which made only 2-of-18 from behind the 3-point arc. Charles Mitchell chipped in with 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Terrapins while leading scorer Jake Layman was held to two points on 1-of-9 shooting.

Ross drained all of his four 3-pointers in the opening six minutes as the Buckeyes jumped to a quick 18-9 lead. Maryland shot only 34.5 percent from the field in the first half and Ohio State finished on an 8-0 run, capped by a basket from Thompson, to take a 43-26 lead at intermission.

Wells, who was held to two points in the opening 20 minutes, scored three consecutive baskets to pull Maryland within 14 early in the second half. The Buckeyes would not let the Terrapins get any closer, pushing their lead as high as 70-45 with a little more than six minutes remaining.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ohio State has won five of its last six games in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. … Smotrycz, a junior transfer from Michigan, played against Ohio State for the seventh time in his career. … Ohio State leads the series 4-2 after the first game between the two teams since 1985.
