Georgia Tech 76, Mississippi Valley State 59: Robert Carter, Jr. scored 13 points and pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds, and the host Yellow Jackets held the Delta Devils without a field goal for more than 12 minutes.

Georgia Tech (5-1) tuned up for Friday’s matchup with Mississippi in the Barclays Center Classic in New York, using a 27-2 spurt during which it held Mississippi Valley State (1-5) to just two free throws for 12:21 of the first half. Trae Golden scored 10 points and Daniel Miller added 12 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.

Anthony McDonald scored 17 points to lead the Delta Devils, who shot 32.3 percent from the field and were outrebounded 49-28. Mississippi Valley State made just four shots from the floor in the first half as the Yellow Jackets built a 41-14 advantage at intermission.

DeAngelo Priar’s 3-pointer tied the game at 6-6 five minutes in, but Miller and Kammeon Holsey each scored six points during the Yellow Jackets’ big surge. Stacey Poole Jr.’s free throw with 2:55 remaining pushed the Georgia Tech advantage to 33-8.

Carter, who shot 6-of-10 from the field and added three blocked shots, scored four points in the final 1:25 of the first half and added six points in the first three minutes following halftime. Georgia Tech led by as many as 35 points in the second half.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Yellow Jackets are 5-1 for the first time since 2009-10. … Miller surpassed the 600-rebound mark for his career. … Mississippi Valley State closed the game with a 28-10 run during the final 10 minutes.
