Virginia 75, Liberty 53: Anthony Gill scored 13 points and Malcolm Brogdon added 12 to lead a balanced offense as the Cavaliers pulled away from the visiting Flames.

Justin Anderson contributed nine points and four assists while London Perrantes had six assists for Virginia (4-1), which built a 20-0 run in the second half. Darion Atkins recorded seven points and a game-high nine rebounds for the Cavaliers, who made 9-of-21 from 3-point range.

Davon Marshall led the way with 15 points for Liberty (1-4), which has dropped four straight contests. Antwan Burrus chipped in with 12 points and John Caleb Sanders added eight for the Flames, who shot 38.6 percent from the field and made 7-of-14 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Evan Nolte drained Virginia’s fifth 3-pointer of the first half to push its lead to 24-12 with a little less than nine minutes left. Anderson had eight points off the bench for the Cavaliers in the opening period and Marshall led Liberty with 11 as the Flames pulled within 32-26 at intermission.

Virginia held Liberty without a point for more than four minutes to start the second half and ran off three straight baskets, capped by a Akil Mitchell dunk. The Flames pulled within nine before the Cavaliers scored the next 20 points, highlighted by dunks from Mitchell and Gill along with three 3-pointers, to put it away.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Brogdon, who missed all of last season with a foot injury, has scored in double figures the last four games after registering nine points in the season opener. … Liberty turned the ball over 19 times and the Cavaliers had nine miscues – two in the first half. … Virginia leads the series 7-2 and is 128-17 all-time against current members of the Big South.
