William & Mary 72, Rutgers 62: Marcus Thornton scored a season-high 28 points as the visiting Tribe erased a nine-point deficit at the break by scoring the first 20 points of the second half to stun the Scarlet Knights.

Terry Tarpey added 11 points, Tim Rusthoven scored 10 points and freshman Omar Prewitt added nine off the bench for William & Mary (2-3). Thornton converted 16-of-19 free throws - 8-of-8 in the final 2:13 - while his teammates were 5-for-13 from the line.

Jerome Seagears scored 15 points while Kadeem Jack recorded 14 points, nine rebounds and four blocks for Rutgers (3-3), which missed five shots and committed four turnovers during the decisive run. Myles Mack scored 11 of his 14 points in the first half for the Scarlet Knights.

Rutgers took its biggest lead of the first half - 29-17 - on Seagears' 3-pointer with just over three minutes left until the break before settling for a 33-24 lead at intermission. Jack registered seven points and five rebounds while Seagears scored eight in the first 20 minutes.

After missing its first shot of the second half, William & Mary made its next four to tie it and Kyle Gaillard's bucket made it 44-33 with 14 minutes left. Rutgers, which shot 35.7 percent from the field in the second half, couldn't get any closer than eight the rest of the way as the Tribe shot 58.3 percent after the break.

GAME NOTEBOOK: William & Mary was 1-for-10 from 3-point range in the first half and 4-for-7 in the second. ... Jack, Mack and Seagears were 15-for-33 from the field while their teammates were 7-for-21. ... Rutgers had won the previous five meetings, with all occurring in the 1970s.
