Louisiana State 89, Southeastern Louisiana 66: Freshman Jordan Mickey scored eight of his 17 points during an 18-2 first-half run as the host Tigers routed the Lions.

Mickey added five blocked shots and Anthony Hickey finished with 10 points, seven steals, seven rebounds and six assists for LSU (3-1). Johnny O’Bryant III led the way with 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Andre Stringer added 12 points for the Tigers, who led by 24 points at halftime before the Lions (2-2) briefly pulled within eight points in the second half.

Onochie Ochie led Southeastern Louisiana with 17 points. Julian Chiera added 13 points, hitting three 3-pointers.

Mickey’s first basket 2:29 into the contest snapped a 2-all tie and sparked the Tigers’ big run, Hickey’s 3-pointer with 11:55 left in the half making it 20-4 LSU. The Tigers scored 14 of the final 16 points of the half to build a 49-25 advantage at intermission.

The Lions battled back, pulling within 62-54 on two Ochie free throws with 9:29 remaining. The Tigers restored order quickly, using a 12-3 spurt in the next four minutes to extend their cushion to 74-57.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hickey’s career high in steals is eight, set on Jan. 23 against Texas A&M. … LSU, which started the day first in the nation in rebounding at 54.3 rebounds per game, finished with 45 boards. … The Lions finished 7-for-9 from the free-throw line; LSU shot 20-of-27.
