James Young was the breakout freshman of the night with 26 points as the Wildcats sprinted past the visiting Mavericks.

Young went 8-of-14 from the field, including 5-of-10 from beyond the arc, in his best effort of the young season as Kentucky (4-1) made it back-to-back wins. Julius Randle added 22 points and 10 rebounds and Willie Cauley-Stein collected 14 and 10 off the bench for the Wildcats.

Brandon Edwards recorded 24 points and 11 boards to lead Texas-Arlington (2-3), which has dropped two straight. Reger Dowell chipped in 20 points and Vincent Dillard scored 13.

Young scored 13 points in the first 6:14 as Kentucky began the game with a 19-5 run. Dillard’s 3-pointer snapped a field-goal drought of over six minutes for the Mavericks, who crawled back within 28-25 before settling for a 42-33 deficit at the break.

Young and Andrew Harrison hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cap a 13-3 burst beginning the second half. Texas-Arlington had another drought of four minutes in the second half as the Wildcats stretched the lead out to 68-44 with 11:32 left and stayed in control the rest of the way.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Kentucky went 27-for-39 from the free-throw line and is shooting 65.1 percent from the stripe on the season. … The Wildcats started five freshmen for the second straight game, with Andrew Harrison, Aaron Harrison and Marcus Lee joining Randle and Young. Sophomores Cauley-Stein and Alex Poythress were the first two off the bench. … Dowell has reached 20 points in each of the first five games.
