Miami (Fla.) 70, College of Charleston 54: James Kelly scored a season-high 18 points as the visiting Hurricanes pulled away from the Cougars for their third straight win.

Kelly made 6-of-9 from the field, including all three of his 3-point attempts, and Rion Brown chipped in with 15 points for Miami (3-1), which was playing its first road game. Freshman Manu Lecomte added 14 points and five assists for the Hurricanes, who finished 7-of-11 behind the 3-point arc.

Willis Hall led the way with 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists for Charleston (1-3), which made only 11 of its 22 free-throw attempts. Freshman Joe Chealey added 12 points for the Cougars.

The Cougars were down two points with 7:34 left in the opening half before going more than four minutes without a field goal while Miami built a 12-3 run. Kelly posted 14 points and Brown had nine while the Hurricanes drained 6-of-9 from beyond the 3-point arc to finish with a 40-25 lead at intermission.

Canyon Barry scored the first four of the second half and the Cougars held Miami without a point for more than four minutes. The Hurricanes finally got rolling and scored eight straight points – four by Lecomte --- to take a 53-34 lead with 11:01 left and Charleston got no closer than nine the rest of the way.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Barry, who had eight points, is the youngest son of NBA Hall of Famer and former Miami star Rick Barry. … Miami only had one turnover in the first half and nine for the game. … Kelly, a transfer from Owen Community College in Ohio, recorded 45 points combined the last three games after going scoreless in the opener.
