Tennessee 86, The Citadel 60: Jordan McRae scored 20 points and the host Volunteers took control early en route to an easy victory over the Bulldogs.

Antonio Barton and Robert Hubbs III scored 13 points apiece as Tennessee shot 56.6 from the field and enjoyed a 41-29 rebounding edge. McRae and Barton each made three 3-pointers while the Volunteers' powerful frontcourt tandem of Jarnell Stokes and Jeronne Maymon combined for only 16 points and nine rebounds.

Matt Van Scyoc scored 19 points for The Citadel (2-3), which was playing its fifth game in 11 days to open the season. Ashton Moore, who scored 21 in an 83-53 victory over Division II North Greenville on Saturday, had six on 1-for-9 shooting as the Bulldogs shot 34.5 percent from the field.

The Volunteers shot 60.7 percent in the first half en route to a 45-28 lead. Tennessee quickly established a double-digit advantage for good on Barton's 3-pointer 4:46 into the contest and led by 20 on a pair of occasions while grabbing 17 of the game's first 21 rebounds.

Van Scyoc scored 13 points in the first half and was 4-for-6 from the field while the rest of the Bulldogs were 4-for-17. The Volunteers re-established a 20-point lead on Josh Richardson's dunk with 13:58 remaining and stretched the margin to as much as 29 on Hubbs' basket with 7:29 to play.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Tennessee has won 16 straight games against teams from South Carolina. ... The Volunteers were 7-for-14 from the free-throw line in the first half and 19-for-28 for the game. ... Tennessee has won all five meetings with The Citadel, which was selected to finish last in the 14-team Southern Conference in a preseason vote of the league's coaches.
