Oregon State 90, Maryland 83:
Roberto Nelson scored 31 points and Devon Collier had 29 as the visiting Beavers survived for a big road win.

Nelson and Collier combined to go 20-for-34 from the floor as Oregon State (2-1) shot 59.6 percent to win in front of President Barack Obama, whose brother-in-law is Beavers coach Craig Robinson. Challe Barton chipped in nine points and Victor Robbins had seven.

Dez Wells led five Terrapins in double figures with 23 points. Evan Smotrycz had 16 and Jake Layman 15 for Maryland (1-2), which had its 30-game home winning streak against non-conference opponents snapped.

Neither team led by more than six points in a tight first half that ended 38-38, but Oregon State scored the first eight points of the second - including five by Barton - and took its first double-digit lead at 50-40 on an Angus Brandt layup with 17:16 left. Smotrycz and Layman hit consecutive 3-pointers as the Terrapins pulled within 65-63 before Robbins was good from long range.

It was a one-possession game multiple times down the stretch, the last coming after Wells hit a jumper to make it 84-81 with 1:01 to go. Nelson beat the shot-clock buzzer on a jumper with 29 seconds left and hit two free throws to help ice Oregon State's first win against an Atlantic Coast Conference team since 1999.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
The Beavers are 4-0 with Obama in attendance. ... Maryland had a 30-second stretch with just under eight minutes remaining in which it missed three shots and two free throws, and missed five straight free throws at one point in the second half. ... The Terrapins' last home loss versus a non-conference opponent was against William & Mary on Dec. 30, 2009.
