Maryland 67, Abilene Christian 44: Jake Layman scored 19 points off the bench and powered a Terrapins' second-half run that buried the visiting Wildcats.
Layman went 4-for-8 from the 3-point line and had two steals and two blocks for Maryland (1-1), and Charles Mitchell added 15 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. Starters Evan Smotrycz and Nick Faust chipped in 11 points each for the Terrapins, who held the Wildcats scoreless for the final 14:12.
Parker Wentz and Harrison Hawkins each had 13 points for Abilene Christian (0-3), which hit 6-of-11 3-pointers in the first half. Wentz started the game 5-of-5 but the Wildcats got no points from their bench and didn't attempt a free throw.
The Wildcats hit four straight 3-pointers, including back-to-back 3s from Austin Cooke to grab an 18-13 lead with 9:09 left, then got another from Wentz to gain a 10-point advantage with 5:01 remaining.
