Terone Johnson led the way with 17 points and Rapheal Davis added 14 off the bench as the Boilermakers ran away from the visiting Blue Devils.

A.J. Hammons scored 12 points and blocked seven shots in his season debut for Purdue (2-0), which controlled the glass, 52-41. Hammons, who was suspended for the two preseason games and the season opener against Northern Kentucky for violating team rules, recorded five of his blocks in the first half as the Boilermakers sprinted out and never looked back.

Kyle Vinales scored 22 points on 6-of-21 shooting for Central Connecticut State (0-2), which has dropped its first two games by an average of 26 points. Faronte Drakeford added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Blue Devils.

Central Connecticut State scored on its first four possessions to jump out to an 8-2 lead and was up 17-12 less than six minutes into the contest before going cold. The Blue Devils went scoreless for over five minutes as Purdue went on an 18-0 run and took control.

The Boilermakers led by as much as 51-24 in the first half before settling for a 54-32 cushion at the half. Hammons’ free throws with 12:22 to play pushed the lead to 77-45 and Purdue coasted to the finish.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Boilermakers went past the century mark for the first time since a 103-48 triumph over Alcorn State on Nov. 17, 2010. … Central Connecticut State struggled to 4-of-21 from 3-point range. … Purdue improved to 6-0 all-time against teams from the Northeast Conference.
