Arizona State 90, Miami (Ohio) 54: Jermaine Marshall and Jahii Carson scored 18 points apiece as the host Sun Devils pulled away in the first half.

Carson added eight assists and 7-2 center Jordan Bachynski contributed 16 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for Arizona State (2-0). Calaen Robinson took advantage of the lopsided score to put up 11 points off the bench for the Sun Devils.

Reggie Johnson scored a career-high 24 points to lead Miami (0-2), which missed 16-of-20 shots from 3-point range. Blake McLimans added 15 points and three blocks for the RedHawks.

The RedHawks stayed close the first 6½ minutes, but the Sun Devils quickly sprinted away behind a 20-2 run that gave them a 31-13 lead with 7:15 left in the half. Bachynski had baskets at either end of the run.

Arizona State continued hammering away at Miami, ultimately outscoring the RedHawks 36-9 over the final 15 minutes to take a 41-18 halftime lead. The Sun Devils left the door open for a comeback by missing five straight free throws in the first two minutes of the second half, but Marshall finally ended the four-minute scoreless drought by draining a 3-pointer to put Arizona State back on top 47-27 with 16:16 remaining.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Arizona State coach Herb Sendek made his head coaching debut for Miami (Ohio) 20 years ago and owns the second-best winning percentage (.708) in program history. … Carson went 2-for-2 from the free-throw line and the rest of the team was 2-for-11. … Marshall averaged 15.3 points for Penn State last season.
