Iowa State 80, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 50: DeAndre Kane scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the host Cyclones over the Islanders.

Dustin Hogue added 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds for Iowa State (2-0), which built on a 13-point halftime advantage to run away in the final stanza. Matt Thomas pitched in with 13 points and and Georges Niang scored 12 while dishing out a game-high five assists for the Cyclones.

Jeff Beverly led the Islanders (1-1) with 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds. John Jordan, a preseason All-Southland Conference First Team selection, added 11 points, six rebounds and four assists for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, which was held to 28.6 percent from the field.

Iowa State built a 37-24 at the half, led by nine first-half points from Thomas, who knocked down 3-of-6 from beyond the arc in the opening 20. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi took an early 4-2 spurt after the break before five points from Kane highlighted an 18-2 run that opened a 57-30 advantage for the Cyclones.

The Islanders never challenged as the second half wore on, with Iowa State pouring in 43 second-half points. Hogue and Monte Morris, who finished with 11 points off the bench, sunk a pair of 3-pointers each down the stretch to help close things out for the Cyclones.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Iowa State recorded its 15th straight nonconference win at home. ... The Cyclones followed up a season-opening performance against UNC-Wilmington that featured 15 3-pointers with 11-of-25 from beyond the arc against the Islanders. ... Iowa State G Melvin Ejim, expected to miss three to five weeks with a knee injury, was cleared for on-court workouts and has not been ruled out for a Sunday showdown with eighth-ranked Michigan.
