Massachusetts 92, LSU 90: Chaz Williams had 24 points and nine assists and Cady Lalanne had all 16 of his points in the second half before fouling out as the host Minutemen held off the Tigers.

Sampson Carter chipped in 17 points - including four from the line in the final 13 seconds - for Massachusetts (2-0), which won its second game against a major conference opponent in a span of three days. Raphiael Putney had 14 points and nine rebounds.

Johnny O'Bryant III led LSU (0-1) with 23 points and 11 rebounds but was 5-for-10 from the line, part of a 15-for-25 showing for the Tigers. Andre Stringer had 21 points and Jordan Mickey contributed 16 points, 10 boards and five blocked shots.

Playing mostly with O'Bryant on the bench with four fouls, LSU rallied from 10 points down midway through the second half to get within 77-76, but the Minutemen scored the next six points - capped by a Lalanne layup - to make it a seven-point bulge with 6:12 left. Three Massachusetts turnovers in a span of 23 seconds helped the Tigers pull to 88-85 with 24 ticks remaining before Carter went 4-of-4 from the line to give the hosts enough of a cushion to survive a late 3-pointer by Anthony Hickey.

Putney had a putback two-hand slam off a missed free throw to give the Minutemen a 25-16 advantage with 7:50 left in the first half. O'Bryant had nine points in a Tigers flourish to close the half, but Williams' 3-pointer in the closing seconds gave the hosts a 49-45 lead heading into the locker room.
