No. 22 Notre Dame 74, Miami (Ohio) 62: Jerian Grant scored a career-high 26 points and hit five 3-pointers to propel the Fighting Irish to victory over the visiting RedHawks.

Grant made his first five shots, including four 3-pointers, and had 16 points in the first half as Notre Dame (1-0) stayed perfect in season openers under head coach Mike Brey. Eric Atkins and Pat Connaughton combined for 21 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists for the Fighting Irish.

Reggie Johnson led the way with a career-high 22 points, including 15 in the first half, for the RedHawks (0-1). Will Felder registered 13 points and seven rebounds, and Geovonie McKnight netted 13 points in the loss.

The Fighting Irish raced out to a 17-4 advantage in the first seven minutes behind 11 points from Grant, who averaged 12.8 points in his first two seasons. Johnson, a sophomore, responded by scoring 15 points in the final seven minutes of the first half to bring Miami to within 39-32 at halftime.

Grant and Austin Burgett hit 3's to help push the Irish lead to 13 in the first five minutes of the second half, and a 10-point deficit was the closest the RedHawks got the rest of the way. Miami outrebounded Notre Dame 30-27, but committed 12 turnovers.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The last time the Fighting Irish lost a season opener was in 1998 against the RedHawks. ... Zach Auguste returned from a broken left hand earlier than anticipated and scored two points for the Irish. ... Grant's previous career high was 22 points, which he accomplished on two occasions.
