: LaDontae Henton scored 21 points as the host Friars edged the Colonials in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament.

Henton shot 6-for-7 and 8-for-8 at the foul line and Bryce Cotton added 20 points for Providence (19-14), which will play at Baylor in the Region 1 final on Wednesday. Vincent Council pitched in 12 points and 10 assists for the Friars, who outrebounded Robert Morris 43-18.

Karvel Anderson scored 18 points to lead the Colonials (24-11). Russell Johnson added 16 and Mike McFadden had 14.

After falling behind 9-2, Providence rallied to tie the game at 34 entering halftime behind 10 points by Henton - six coming on dunks. Back-to-back Cotton 3-pointers gave the Friars a 44-37 lead with 15:29 left before Anderson and Johnson 3-pointers keyed an 8-0 Robert Morris response as the Colonials pulled ahead 62-61 with 6:20 to go.

Council made a pair of free throws and converted a three-point play as Providence went ahead 70-64 with 3:03 to go. The Friars scored seven consecutive points down the stretch to seal it.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Providence F Kadeem Batts scored 10 points. … The Friars hadn’t won consecutive postseason contests since 1997, when Austin Croshere led them to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. … Henton’s 21 points marked his third-highest scoring total of the season and most since a 37-point effort against Brown on Dec. 28.
