Minnesota 83, UCLA 63: Andre Hollins had 28 points and a career-high nine rebounds to lead the 11th-seeded Golden Gophers past the sixth-seeded Bruins in the NCAA Tournament second-round game in Austin, Texas.

Austin Hollins added 16 points, a career-high seven assists and four steals for Minnesota, which will play third-seeded Florida in the South Regional quarterfinals Sunday. Joe Coleman scored 14 points off the bench and Trevor Mbakwe contributed nine points and 12 rebounds for the Golden Gophers (21-12).

Shabazz Muhammad missed his first seven shots before finishing with 20 points on 6-for-18 shooting for UCLA (25-10), which fell to 5-2 in NCAA Tournament first-round games under coach Ben Howland. David Wear and Norman Powell scored 10 points apiece and Kyle Anderson grabbed 11 rebounds for the Bruins.

Neither team made a basket in the game’s first five minutes. UCLA missed its first eight field-goal attempts and starting forward Travis Wear picked up three fouls in the first 8:27, but the Bruins still managed to cut a 14-point first-half deficit to 10 at the break.

The Bruins used an 7-0 run to get within five with 15:04 left but Andre Hollins followed with back-to-back 3s to push the lead back to 11 and UCLA never got back within eight. The Bruins shot 31.7 percent for the game

GAME NOTEBOOK: The UCLA starters missed their first 14 shots before Larry Drew II scored on a layup. They were 3-for-23 in the first half. … Drew, who entered the tournament ranked third in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.12), had four turnovers before recording his first assist with 15:38 remaining. He finished with four points, three assists and five turnovers … Jordan Adams, the second-leading scorer for UCLA who suffered a broken foot on the final play of the Pac-12 tournament semifinal win against Arizona, had surgery Wednesday.
