No. 10 Miami 87, North Carolina 77: Shane Larkin scored 28 points and dished out seven assists as the Hurricanes pulled away late to win their first ACC tournament title at Greensboro, N.C.

Trey McKinney Jones added a season-high 20 points, including six 3-pointers, and Julian Gamble chipped in with 11 points and 10 rebounds for regular-season champion Miami (27-6). Rion Brown also had 12 points for the Hurricanes, who went ahead for good 69-67 on a 3-pointer by McKinney Jones with 6:27 left.

P.J. Hairston scored 28 points to lead the way for North Carolina (24-10), which was denied their 18th championship. Marcus Paige added 17 points, James Michael McAdoo had 12 and Reggie Bullock 11 for the third-seeded Tar Heels.

There were 13 lead changes and the teams combined to make 15 shots from behind the 3-point arc in the first half. Hairston scored 15 points, but tournament MVP Larkin matched that and dished out five assists as Miami took a 44-41 lead at intermission.

Two straight baskets by McAdoo gave North Carolina a 63-58 lead with 10:53 to go. Brown responded with a 3-pointer before Larkin and McKinney Jones converted from behind the arc as the Hurricanes regained the lead before ending the game by making 10 straight free throws.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The teams combined for 25 3-pointers (13 by North Carolina), the most ever in an ACC tournament final. … North Carolina made its record 32nd appearance in the conference championship game. … Durand Scott, who scored 32 points in the semifinals, missed six minutes early in the first half due to a back injury and finished with six points for Miami.
