No. 14 New Mexico 59, Wyoming 46: Cameron Bairstow recorded 14 points and eight rebounds as the top-seeded Lobos survived a scare from the Cowboys in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Conference tournament at Las Vegas.

Tony Snell contributed 15 points for New Mexico (27-5), which will play San Diego State in Friday's semifinals. The Lobos had a 10-point halftime lead cut to three, but held Wyoming to 32 percent shooting overall to advance.

Derrious Gilmore and Larry Nance Jr. led the way with 14 points apiece for eighth-seeded Wyoming (19-13). Josh Adams added 12 points for the Cowboys and leading scorer Leonard Washington was held to six in 23 minutes before fouling out.

The Lobos scored the first five points and never trailed on the way to a 34-24 lead at intermission. Snell scored 11 points and New Mexico made 4-of-6 from behind the 3-point arc in the opening 20 minutes.

New Mexico did not make a field goal in the second half until Bairstow’s three-point play with 9:37 remaining, but still led 45-37. Wyoming trimmed the lead to 48-42 before the Lobos sealed it by scoring the next seven points, highlighted by an Alex Kirk three-point play.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Kendall Williams, the MWC Player of the Year, was held to six points on 1-of-4 shooting while playing his 100th game in the New Mexico uniform. … Wyoming, which started 13-0, lost to New Mexico three times this season. … New Mexico, which improved to 19-0 when leading at the half, won the MWC tournament in 2005 and 2012.
