No. 20 Cincinnati 77,
Oregon 66: Cashmere Wright led four Bearcats in double figures with 17
points and Cincinnati fended off the Ducks in a battle of 5-0 teams to win the
Global Sports Classic championship at Las Vegas.
Sean Kilpatrick, who scored 32 in the Bearcats’ win over
Iowa State on Friday, recorded 11 of his 16 points in the first half. JaQuon Parker
also scored 16 for Cincinnati.
The Bearcats built a 19-point lead in the first half, but the
Ducks rallied and took their first lead 54-52 on a steal and ensuing layup by
Damyean Dotson with 7:40 to play. The Bearcats responded with 11 straight
points to take control once again.
The Ducks, who were attempting to upset ranked teams on
consecutive nights, received 15 points off the bench from Carlos Emory. Iranian
center Arsalan Kazemi added nine points and grabbed 15 rebounds.
Titus Rubles added 13
for Cincinnati, which was 11-for-24 from beyond the arc.
GAME NOTEBOOK: UNLV
beat Iowa State in Saturday night’s consolation game. The No. 18 Runnin’ Rebels
had their 20-game home-winning streak snapped in the semifinals by Oregon.
…Kilpatrick was 16-for-16 from the free-throw line Friday. On Saturday he
went 5-for-8 from the stripe. …. With UNLV eliminated, the title game was
played in front of a sparse crowd. … Oregon starting center Tony Woods fouled
out with just over 10 minutes remaining in the game.
