Iowa 58, Purdue 48: Roy Devyn Marble and Aaron White scored 18 points apiece and the host Hawkeyes kept their NCAA Tournament hopes alive with the Big Ten victory.

White shot 11-for-14 from the free-throw line and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for Iowa (18-10, 7-8 Big Ten), which announced before the game that freshman point guard Mike Gesell will be out two weeks with a right foot injury.

Donnie Hale scored 13 points to lead four players in double figures for Purdue (13-15, 6-9). A.J. Hammons had 12 points and nine rebounds off the bench, D.J. Byrd scored 11 points and Ronnie Johnson finished with 10 points and six assists.

Iowa went the last 12:41 of the first half without a field goal, but still managed to take a 23-16 lead into the break. Both teams combined to score 10 points in the final 10:40.

Hammons opened the second half by converting a jumper, but Marble scored the first five points in a 7-0 run to put Iowa ahead 30-18. Purdue twice cut the deficit to six, the second time with 2:17 remaining, but Josh Oglesby hit a 3-pointer to extend the lead back to nine with 1:42 left.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Gesell is third on the team in scoring at nine points and second at 2.9 assists. … Iowa came into the game as the first Big Ten team to play six conference games decided by six points or less. … Purdue had its three-game winning streak ended against the Hawkeyes and lost for the second time in the last 11 meetings.
