No. 8 Georgetown 79, Connecticut 78 (2 OT): Otto Porter Jr. scored 21 of his 22 points after halftime – including the game-winning layup – as the visiting Hoyas held off the Huskies in a thriller to win their 10th straight game.

Markel Starks added 19 points for Georgetown (22-4, 12-3 Big East), which is in the midst of its longest conference winning streak since winning 11 in a row during the 2006-07 season.

Sophomore DeAndre Daniels posted his first career double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds – matching a career high – for Connecticut (19-8, 9-6).

The Huskies appeared to pull away in the second overtime with 9-2 surge following 3-pointers from Daniels and Shabazz Napier but Porter and D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera each drained 3-pointers to close the gap to 78-77 with 52 seconds remaining. Smith-Rivera stripped the ball from Napier as the shot clock was winding down on the next possession and Porter converted a difficult layup with 12 seconds left, allowing Georgetown to survive a last-second 3-point attempt from Ryan Boatright that rimmed out.

Georgetown controlled most of the second half, but squandered a 12-point cushion with 4:36 left in regulation – a span in which it converted one field goal. Starks had a chance to put the game away with a free throw with nine seconds remaining, but missed the front end of a one-and-one and Omar Calhoun hit a high-arcing 3-pointer to send the game into overtime.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Napier turned his right ankle 40 seconds into the second half – on his first basket of the game. He re-entered the game following a media timeout with 14:22 remaining but was noticeably affected by the injury for a short time thereafter. … Connecticut suffered its first loss against Georgetown at Gampel Pavilion in four tries. … Napier and Porter – who entered Wednesday as the fifth- and ninth-leading scorers in the Big East, respectively – combined for one point in the first half. Napier finished with 16 points.
