California 60, Oregon State 59:
Justin Cobbs had 18 points and five assists as the visiting Golden Bears held off the Beavers in Pac-12 play.

Tyrone Wallace added 11 points for California (18-9, 10-5 Pac-12), which didn’t seal its fifth straight victory until Oregon State’s Ahmad Starks missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer. The Golden Bears have won seven of eight games and are just one game off the conference lead behind first-place Arizona.

Joe Burton had 15 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and five steals to pace the Beavers (13-15, 3-12). Devon Collier added 13 points and Eric Moreland grabbed 14 rebounds.

The Golden Bears held a 13-point advantage early in the second half before the Beavers whittled their way back into the game, cutting California’s lead to 43-40 on Roberto Nelson’s three-point play with 9:24 remaining. Four straight free throws by Collier pulled Oregon State within 60-59 with 42.3 seconds left.

California used a 14-0 run to take 21-8 advantage midway through the first half. Oregon State began the contest by making just four of its first 26 shots but was able to pull within 29-20 at the break.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Nelson had 10 points and is two shy of becoming the 38th player in Oregon State history to reach 1,000 career points. … Golden Bears standout Allen Crabbe scored only six points on 2-of-12 shooting. … The Beavers shot 21.6 percent in the first half and finished at 34.5.
