Jack Cooley and Jerian Grant scored 13 points apiece as the visiting Fighting Irish overcame a horrendous start to pull away from the Panthers.

Eric Atkins added 10 points and seven assists for Notre Dame (21-6, 9-5 Big East), which trailed by 16 points after missing 18 of its first 19 shots from the field, but outscored Pittsburgh 48-23 after coach Mike Bray picked up a technical foul with 7:08 left in the first half. The Fighting Irish made 17 of their final 28 field goal attempts.

Tray Woodall scored 11 points for Pittsburgh (20-7, 8-6), which had its four-game conference winning streak at home snapped. The Panthers, who were outrebounded 40-25, recorded a season low in points while Notre Dame allowed its fewest.

Notre Dame missed its first 12 shots from the floor and didn't score a field goal until Tom Knight's layup with 10:50 remaining in the first half. Woodall made both technical foul shots with 7:08 to go before the Fighting Irish finished the period with a 16-3 run to close the gap to 22-19 at the break.

Notre Dame took its first lead since 1-0 when Grant's 3-pointer made it 29-28 with 14:45 left and Atkins' basket gave the Fighting Irish the lead for good 33-32 with 10:54 to go. Grant and Cooley combined for all the points in a 10-2 run which put Notre Dame ahead 43-36 with 3:09 remaining.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Notre Dame (1.67) and Pittsburgh (1.64) entered the game 1-2 in the country in turnover-to-assist ratio. The Fighting Irish finished with 12 assists and 15 turnovers, while the Panthers had 10 and eight. ... Cooley had nine rebounds as his double-double streak ended at six games. ... Pittsburgh fell to 178-22 at the Petersen Events Center.
