No. 5 Michigan 79, Penn State 71:
Trey Burke scored a season-high 29 points and freshmen Glenn Robinson III and Nik Stauskas combined for 39 as the host Wolverines survived an upset bid.

Michigan (22-4, 9-4 Big Ten), which had lost three of its last four games, started slow before closing out the Nittany Lions (8-17, 0-13), who are one of two teams in the country winless in league play (Grambling State).

Robinson made all six of his shots, five of them dunks, en route to 21 points and Stauskas hit both his 3-pointers in the decisive second half push. Jermaine Marshall and Sasa Borovnjak led Penn State with 17 points apiece.

The Wolverines trailed by as many as eight early and needed a late run to forge a 32-32 tie at halftime. Robinson opened the second half with a dunk to start a 6-0 burst, but Penn State rallied to tie it once more on a Brandon Taylor 3-pointer with 16:25 left.

A Stauskas 3-pointer gave the Wolverines the lead for good, but they did not gain much separation until Stauskas and Tim Hardaway Jr. hit 3s during a 10-2 burst that made it 65-56 with 6:43 remaining. The Lions got within six on multiple occasions thereafter, but never closer.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Between the stretch run and overtime of a loss to Wisconsin on Feb. 9, a lopsided loss to Michigan State on Tuesday and the first nine minutes of this one, the Wolverines were outscored 108-68 in a span of 60-plus minutes. ... Hardaway was 1-for-11 in the loss to the Spartans and started this one 1-for-7. ... Penn State has lost 15 straight Big Ten road games.
