No. 25 Memphis 71, Marshall 59: Adonis Thomas had a career-high 23 points and matched his career best with 10 rebounds to lead the visiting Tigers past the Thundering Herd.

Joe Jackson scored 12 points and Geron Johnson added 11 to help Memphis (22-3, 11-0 C-USA) extend its overall win streak to 16 games and increase the nation’s longest road win streak to 11. The Tigers, who beat Marshall 73-72 on Jan. 26 in Memphis, improved to 7-0 on the road this season.

Dennis Tinnon recorded 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for Marshall (11-15, 4-7), which lost for the sixth time in eight games. DeAndre Kane and Elijah Pittman each added 16 points for the Thundering Herd, who fell to 10-4 at home.

Marshall jumped out to a 10-3 lead after D.D. Scarver’s 3-pointer, but Memphis went on a 40-16 run and held the Thundering Herd scoreless for 6:03 to take a 43-26 lead at halftime. Marshall pulled within five points, 46-41, on Pittman’s free throw with 10:47 left but Memphis held on from there.

Johnson and Chris Crawford, who came off the bench, each had five of Memphis’ 15 assists. The Tigers, who improved to 13-2 in the series, committed 13 turnovers to Marshall’s 20.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Kane (1,390 career points) passed former NBA star Hal Greer (1,377 from 1955-58) for 19th place on Marshall’s all-time scoring list. … Thomas had 15 points and seven rebounds in the first half for Memphis. … The Tigers were the first ranked opponent the Thundering Herd played at Cam Henderson Center in three seasons.
