North Carolina 93, Virginia 81: P.J. Hairston had 29 points, setting a career high for his second straight game, as the Tar Heels won their fifth home game in a row.

Hairston, who had 23 points against Duke on Wednesday, shot a career-best 6-for-12 from 3-point range. Marcus Paige scored 17, while Dexter Strickland had 12 points and six assists for North Carolina (17-8, 7-5 ACC), which avenged a nine-point loss at Virginia earlier this season.

Joe Harris scored a career-high 27 points for Virginia, shooting 10-for-13 from the field. The Cavaliers (18-7, 8-4) led by as much as 10 points early in the game and made 8-for-13 from 3-point range in the first half, but the game was tied 40-40 at intermission.

North Carolina started the second half with an 8-0 run and never trailed after that, getting key 3-pointers from Hairston, Paige and Reggie Bullock, who finished with 11 points.

Virginia was shut out on the offensive glass and couldn’t register an offensive rebound until the final 10 minutes of the game. James Michael McAdoo finished with a team-leading 10 rebounds for the Tar Heels.

GAME NOTEBOOK: North Carolina has won 10 of its last 12 games against Virginia and improved to 65-6 at home against the Cavaliers. … Virginia G Jontel Evans hit a desperate buzzer-beater from long range at the end of the first half to tie the game after leading his team with five turnovers in the half. … Virginia travels to Miami to take on the Hurricanes (11-0 ACC) on Tuesday, while the Tar Heels visit Georgia Tech, whom they defeated 79-63 at home last month.
