No. 8 Michigan State 75, No. 5 Michigan 52:
Freshman Gary Harris led four players in double figures with 17 points as the host Spartans dominated their in-state rivals and regained the top spot in the Big Ten.

Michigan State (21-4, 10-2) broke open the much-anticipated game with an early 20-7 run and stifled the high-octane Michigan offense throughout, moving one-half game ahead of top-ranked Indiana in the conference standings.

Derrick Nix added 14 points and Keith Appling had 11 for the Spartans. Trey Burke finished with 18 points to lead the Wolverines (21-4, 8-4), who were held to a season low in points as they lost for the third time in their last four games.

Harris hit a 3-pointer that began the 20-7 burst seven minutes in, which left Michigan State with 35-19 lead. Appling scored seven straight points early in the second half to stretch the margin to 19 and the Spartans took their largest cushion at 74-43 on two Matt Costello free throws with 2:32 to go.

Tim Hardaway Jr., Michigan's second-leading scorer, missed all six of his shots in a scoreless first half and matched a career low with two points on 1-for-11 shooting. Michigan State finished with 11 more rebounds and eight fewer turnovers.
