Connecticut 82, Providence 79 (OT): Omar Calhoun hit the tiebreaking 3-pointer with 42 seconds left in the extra period as the Huskies ended a three-game losing streak to the host Friars.

Ryan Boatright scored a team-high 19 points while Shabazz Napier and DeAndre Daniels each tallied 18 for Connecticut (14-5, 4-3 Big East). Calhoun chipped in with 13 points.

Providence's Kadeem Batts led all scorers with 20 points and added nine boards while Bryce Cotton – the conference’s leading scorer – had 18 points for the Friars (10-11, 2-7), who held a commanding 55-24 advantage on the boards – including 28 offensive rebounds.

Each team held the lead on two occasions in overtime until Boatright drove the lane and found Calhoun on the right wing to give the Huskies a 79-76 advantage. Batts and Napier traded two free throws over the next 23 seconds, but Cotton missed the second of two foul shots with 14 seconds left.

Napier hit one of two free throws two seconds later and forced Cotton into an off-balance 3-point attempt in the waning seconds to hold on for the win.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Providence’s 28 offensive rebounds was its highest total since matching that mark against Seton Hall on March 6, 2010. … The Friars chose to bring regular starting PG Vincent Council off the bench. He responded by posting his first double-double of the year with 15 points and 10 assists before fouling out five seconds into overtime. … Connecticut built a 25-10 lead at the 11:01 mark of the first half and forced the Friars to miss all six of their first-half 3-point attempts. Providence finished 3-of-14 beyond the arc.
