Connecticut 66, Rutgers 54: Shabazz Napier snapped out of a two-game offensive funk with 19 points as the Huskies sent the visiting Scarlet Knights to their third straight loss.

Ryan Boatright scored 15 while DeAndre Daniels added 13 points and seven rebounds for Connecticut (13-5, 3-3 Big East), which ended a two-game slide. Nursing a left shoulder injury, Napier had combined for 20 points during the short losing streak.

Jerome Seagears poured in a career-high 21 points to lead Rutgers (12-7, 3-5), which was held to 60 or fewer points for the fifth time in Big East play.

A 3-pointer by Seagears capped a 10-1 run by Rutgers that opened the second half and gave the Scarlet Knights their final lead at 30-28. The Huskies then began to pull away following back-to-back 3-pointers from Napier during a stretch where he and Seagears combined to score 11 of the game’s 16 points.

Rutgers rallied to within three with 4:57 remaining, but 10 unanswered points by Connecticut over the next 3:07 stretched the margin to 56-43 and the Huskies converted on their final 10 free throw attempts to preserve the victory.

GAME NOTEBOOK
: Connecticut improved to 5-1 at the XL Center in Hartford this season and is 18-2 against Rutgers in Big East regular-season play. … Seagears’ double-digit scoring effort was his first of the season after 10 such performances last season. … The Huskies have not dropped a home game to the Scarlet Knights since 1977.
