Shavon Coleman scored 17 points off the bench to lead the host Tigers past the Aggies and give LSU its first SEC victory.

LSU (10-6, 1-4 SEC) snapped a four-game losing streak and improved to 9-2 at home. Johnny O’Bryant III had 14 points and 10 rebounds, his fifth double-double this season, and Anthony Hickey had 10 points and a career-high eight steals. Hickey came in as the nation’s leader in steals per game (3.5).

Texas A&M (12-6, 2-3) lost its third straight game and fell to 2-2 on the road. Fabyon Harris had a career-high 19 points and has posted double-figure points in six of his last nine games. Elston Turner had five points in 25 minutes. He came in ranked seventh in the SEC in scoring (16.1).

Texas A&M jumped out to a 9-0 lead, led by as many as 14 points in the first half and held a 28-27 advantage at halftime. In the second half, the lead went back and forth until LSU’s Charles Carmouche stole the ball and made a layup with 2:48 to play, giving the Tigers a lead they did not relinquish.

This was the first meeting between the programs since Texas A&M joined the SEC. LSU improved to 14-11 in the series, including 8-0 in Baton Rouge.

GAME NOTEBOOK: LSU first-year coach Johnny Jones earned his first SEC victory. … The Tigers had 19 steals. They came into the game ranked fifth in the country in steals (10.4). … Texas A&M committed 24 turnovers.
