Pittsburgh 69, Connecticut 61: Lamar Patterson scored 14 points and Tray Woodall added 13 as the Panthers held off a second-half rally by the visiting Huskies.

Omar Calhoun and Ryan Boatright helped Connecticut come from 14 points back to tie the game at 55-55 with 4:36 left. James Robinson’s 3-pointer gave Pittsburgh (15-4, 3-3 Big East) a 61-58 lead with 3:40 remaining and the Panthers finished off their first conference victory at home this season.

Boatright had 20 points – 16 in the second half – and six assists for the Huskies (12-5, 2-3) while Calhoun added 14 points. Connecticut leading scorer Shabazz Napier, bothered by a sore left shoulder, was held to eight points on 2-of-7 from the field.

Robinson chipped in with 12 points for Pittsburgh, including four straight free throws to clinch the game in the final minute. Dante Taylor had six points, including a big basket that gave the Panthers a 65-59 lead with 58.4 seconds left, and added seven rebounds.

Pittsburgh scored 16 of the last 23 points to take a 35-22 lead at halftime. Nine different players scored for the Panthers, while the Huskies shot just 29.2 percent from the field and were 2-of-11 from behind the 3-point line before the break.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Steven Adams contributed three points, nine rebounds and three blocks for Pittsburgh and Woodall had six assists. … Connecticut finished 6-of-22 from 3-point range. … Pittsburgh is 70-18 all time in Big East games at its home arena, the Petersen Events Center.
