Rutgers 58, St. John's 56: Dane Miller scored 11 points and the visiting Scarlet Knights held off the Red Storm in Big East play.

Mike Poole and Austin Johnson chipped in 10 points apiece for Rutgers (11-3, 2-1 Big East), which followed up its upset of Pittsburgh by winning for the seventh time in eight games. The Scarlet Knights pulled out the win while getting a sub-par game from leading scorer Eli Carter, who was held to eight points on 3-of-14 shooting.

D'Angelo Harrison led St. John's (9-6, 1-2) with 20 points but missed a potential go-ahead 3-pointer with eight seconds left. JaKarr Sampson added 12 points but also missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer.

The game featured 14 lead changes and five ties but the lead changed hands for the final time on Miller's layup with 3:04 remaining. Miller had another basket on Rutgers' next possession and St. John's missed several changes to go ahead as Harrison missed two of four free throws. The Red Storm cut the lead to 57-56 on a layup by Sampson with 23 seconds left but Poole split a pair at the line for Rutgers with six seconds remaining for the final margin.

St. John's started slow by missing its first 10 shots and trailed 13-3 before Harrison knocked down a 3-pointer with 12:33 remaining. The Red Storm took their first lead at 18-17 on Sampson's dunk following Rutgers' third straight turnover and carried a 27-23 lead into halftime

GAME NOTEBOOK: The last four meetings have been decided by a combined nine points. ... Harrison was 8-of-12 from the foul line while St. John's failed to capitalize on having 12 more attempts as it was 15-of-27. ... Rutgers has held St. John's below 60 points in the last two meetings.
