No. 13 Minnesota 69, Northwestern 51: Junior guard Austin Hollins scored 19 points, including five consecutive 3-pointers during a 3-minute span midway through the second half, leading the host Golden Gophers to their 10th straight win.

Forward Trevor Mbakwe grabbed 11 rebounds to go along with four blocks and four points for Minnesota (14-1, 2-0), which finished with a massive 45-20 rebounding edge, including 20 on the offensive end.

Senior guard Reggie Hearn scored 11 points and Dave Sobolewski added 10 for Northwestern (9-6, 0-2), which kept it close for a little more than a half by running off about 30 seconds on each possession before shooting. That combined with poor shooting helped result in a first half that saw the two teams combine for just 31 points as the Gophers grinded out a 17-14 halftime lead.

The Wildcats closed to within one point, 19-18, on a layup by Sobolewski with 16:51 remaining before the Gophers broke the game open with a 26-7 run capped by five consecutive treys by Hollins.

Forward Rodney Williams added nine points, five rebounds and two steals for the Gophers, who thanks in great part to Hollins shot 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from 3-point range and led by as many as 20 points late in the second half.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Williams became the 38th player in Minnesota history to reach 1,000 points in a career. ... Hearn, who missed the last two games with an ankle injury, returned to the starting lineup for Northwestern. ... The loss was Northwestern's first in four games away from Welsh-Ryan Arena this season.
