: Rodney Purvis led six players in double figures with 19 points and the visiting Wolfpack got hot late to ward off an upset bid by the Eagles in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.

North Carolina State (12-2) was 4-of-4 from 3-point range in the closing minutes - two apiece by Purvis and Scott Wood - and hit its last eight free throws to survive a tight affair and win its eighth straight game. Lorenzo Brown had 14 points and Richard Howell recorded his ninth double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Ryan Anderson led Boston College (8-6) with 22 points. Joe Rahon had 18 but missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer with four seconds left. Lonnie Jackson added 11 before fouling out in the final minute.

A back-and-forth second half saw the Eagles ahead 62-59 on Jackson's 3-pointer with 5:31 left. Purvis answered with a three of his own and Wood buried another with 3:47 left to snap a 64-64 tie and give the Wolfpack the lead for good.

Wood's two free throws with 27 seconds remaining made it 74-71. Boston College guard Patrick Heckmann was fouled on a 3-point try with 19 seconds left, but made just two of the three attempts. Wood made two more from the line, Rahon missed from the right wing and Wood sealed it with two more free throws.
