Alabama A&M 59, Mississippi State 57: Green Hill scored all seven of his points in the final 1:48 to lift the visiting Bulldogs to their first non-conference road win in six years.

Hill also had two steals in the final push, which began after Alabama A&M (4-7) fell behind 57-52 with 2:18 remaining. Demarquelle Tabb scored 10 of his 14 points in the second half and Jeremy Crutcher also scored 14 points for the Bulldogs.

Craig Sword matched his season high with 14 points while fellow freshman Gavin Ware had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Mississippi State (4-7).

Mississippi State scored the game’s first eight points and led by as many as 15 in the opening half before missing 15 consecutive field goal attempts over an 11:33 stretch. Alabama A&M struggled to shoot the ball as well, but eventually took a 35-33 lead on a 3-pointer by Brandon Ellis with 12:57 remaining in the game.

Roquez Johnson ended the field-goal drought with a 3-pointer with 11:39 left to put Mississippi State back in front, 38-37, and neither team led by more than four points until Mississippi State took the five-point lead on Sword’s jumper with 2:18 remaining. The Bulldogs missed their only field-goal attempt and committed three turnovers the rest of the way.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Mississippi State junior G Jalen Steele returned after missing the last eight games with a fractured wrist. He finished with 10 points. … Alabama A&M junior C Justan Banks had a career-high four blocked shots. … Alabama A&M’s last non-conference road win was at South Dakota State in November 2006.
